Elena and the EDV group led the organisation of the RSC Postgraduate Symposium 2026 for the interest Group in Chemical Biology and Bioorganic Chemistry (CBBG) in collaboration with Dr Sarah Barry (King’s College London) and Dr Anna Barnard (Imperial College). This was hosted by our Centre for Molecular and Cellular Biology.

With over 60 participants from all over the UK, the programme included exciting advances in novel drug modalities, chemical and greener strategies for the synthesis of reagents, alkaloids and antibody-drug-conjugate linkers, covalent drug discovery, and direct-to-biology approaches. An even wider range of topics was discussed in the poster session, which hosted more than 30 presenting postgraduates. Prof Mark Bradley, Chair and Centre Lead in Therapeutic Innovation at the Precision Healthcare University Research Institute (PHURI) gave an insightful keynote talk on applications of chemical tools in vivo.

Our very own Tara Shutes successfully gave her first talk at this event, showcasing our progress in covalent ligand development for protein phosphatases. Furthermore, visiting students Ioannis Avgeris (University of Copenhagen) and Enrico Crispino (University of Pisa) presented posters on their PhD research. Well done to them and to all of the group for supporting this effort!
